Our artist of the night is Clemente Garcia-Lassaulx, Clemente has been long involved in the art culture of Houston and across the country. Out of that experience, he has developed a new method of artistic expression combining a traditional academic style with a more unique personal language. “My desire to create a more interesting language within my art has resulted in a number of semi-abstract pieces”.
He started developing his focus on realism when he was in elementary school in Mexico and at that time he began to sell his artwork.
Clemente was exposed to the art of Saturnino Herran (Mexican Master of the Human Figure) at a young age. After spending some time between Paris and Florence studying the Old Masters, he worked and studied with the Hungarian master painter Lajos Markos, where Clemente learned the secrets of the portraiture. A couple of years later, Clemente collaborated with the masterful Houstonian artist Dick Wray for 10 years. He also learned from the Mexican master Eloy Tarcisio. Clemente works with different techniques including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, ink, charcoal, pencil, spray paint, engraving, woodcut, silkscreen, transfer images, plexiglass, paper mache, spray foam, plaster, clay. He also creates: portrait, still life, landscape, caricature, cartoon, mixed media, semi-abstract, contemporary, conceptual, naive, found objects, video, and photograph. He teaches art at his studio on West Gray Street. Explore his work at https://www.clementegarcia.com/.
